Join Heal the Bay's Aquarium Volunteer Manager/Bird Enthusiast, Micky Kesterson, for a walk and conversation about the winter beach birds of Santa Monica. We'll meet at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, walk on the pier, then along the beach to the Pico-Kenter storm drain. It's a good idea to wear boots. If you have your own binoculars, you'll enjoy having them. If not, we have a few to share. THIS EVENT WILL HAPPEN RAIN OR SHINE. Micky says rainy days just mean less people and MORE BIRDS!
Happy 2016 Heal the Bay members! Looking for something interesting and educational to do this month?
We have all been hearing about the drought and being urged to take shorter showers and water less. What about longer term solutions? Join Heal the Bay's Water Education Specialist, Nancy Shrodes, for a tour and conversation about the future of L.A. water and it's connection to a healthier city and Bay. You are already recycling paper and soda cans, why not water? Come see how it's being done at West Basin!
Celebrate the amazing animals and habitats of the Santa Monica Bay and learn more about the important conservation of the underwater treasures just off our coast. Special craft projects, face painting and a lively puppet show telling the story of Marine Protected Areas are featured, and included with admission to the Aquarium.
Just like the migrating Pacific gray whales, Whale of a Weekend returns to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium Feb. 20th & 21st!
Aquarium visitors can feel the heft of a whale rib, check out bristly baleen, and try on a layer of (simulated) whale blubber for warmth. Kids of all ages can have their faces painted and make a whale visor to take home. Learn more interesting facts about these gentle giants at the Aquarium through story time, film screenings and presentations about the gray whale’s migration habits.
