Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is celebrating Earth Day and Earth Month with a weekend-long festival April 16th and 17th, with presentations and activities for all ages, and an offer of free admission to everyone who first cleans the beach at Nothin' But Sand or near the Santa Monica Pier.
Participants are invited to sketch, paint, and take photos of any of the marine center’s more than 100 local species on exhibit. This two-hour photography/art session will be available to 25 participants only on a first-come, first-served basis. Please RSVP by calling 310-393-6149, x 106. Suggested donations of $5 per person are welcome. The Aquarium is located beach level, beneath the historic Carousel at the Santa Monica Pier.
Whale of a Weekend highlights the annual migration of the Pacific gray whale, which completes one of the longest migrations of any species, traveling 10,000 to 14,000 miles round trip between the arctic seas and the warm lagoons of Baja California, Mexico.
