Get your hands dirty and help restore the Malibu Creek Watershed!
After four long years of mapping streams throughout the Malibu Creek Watershed, the Stream Team has set their sights on fixing the problems. With funding from the State Coastal Conservancy, Heal the Bay will begin fixing large problem areas that were previously mapped. Stream Team Creek Restorations focus on planting native vegetation and removing non-native invasive plants and trash in the Malibu Creek watershed. In addition, participants will learn to identify native and invasive plants, gain an understanding of why native plants are so important to a watershed, and receive training on how they can keep watch on our natural streams and water quality.
It is extremely important that we restore affected areas in the watershed to preserve the native plants and wildlife. There's a tremendous amount of restoration of the watershed that needs to take place and we are counting on the help of our incredible volunteers to make this happen. This will be hard work but at the end of this project our streams will be markedly improved.
Restorations are generally held once a month on a Sunday, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Scheduled events are listed on the right-side of this page and on on the main events Calendar.
All those 14 years of age or older are welcome to participate in the restorations, but each participant (including adults) must sign liability waiver forms (available at the event). Participants age 14-15 must be accompanied by an adult and must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Participants age 16-17, who will not have a parent or guardian present at the event, must bring the waiver, signed by a parent or guardian, with them to the restoration.
So come out, grab a weeder and help Heal the Bay restore this incredible watershed for people and wildlife for years to come!
