Much has been accomplished this past year, and none of this work would
have been possible without the dedication and
generosity of the incredible volunteers
and field crew that make it all happen. Thanks to all of you!
The Stream Team 2005 accomplishments include: Approximately 50,000 square feet of invasive vegetation was removed in Malibu Creek State Park and over 500 native plants were installed in the same areas.
One fish barrier that was blocking the upstream migration of steelhead trout has been removed and no longer serves as a barrier.
Three large concrete dumpsites that were impacting stream banks on Solstice Creek and Nicholas Canyon Creek were removed.
Two previous sediment violations reported by the stream team are currently being investigated and enforced by the State Attorney General.
Two sewage spills and one diesel fuel spill were reported and prevented from reaching Malibu Beach.
Stream Team data was used to create tougher water quality standards in Malibu Creek for nutrients and algae. Stream Team data was used to acquire funding for three additional bridges and the removal of three steelhead trout barrier in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The Stream Team starts a vegetation restoration project at UCLA. Please stay tuned for more Stream Team action in the months ahead! |
