Whether you want to volunteer your time, donate financially or through in-kind gifts to support Heal the Bay's important science, education, community action and advocacy efforts, or if you’re seeking a position with Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, there are a myriad ways you can get involved.
Volunteers must be 15 or older
Volunteers must commit to 10 hours per month, for one year
If selected into the program, a non-refundable $25 fee is required for training materials, uniforms, free parking and free admission to the Aquarium.
Are you interested in inspiring others to appreciate the amazing creatures that live in the Santa Monica Bay? If so, then volunteer at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium! We couldn’t open our doors without the help of a dedicated group of volunteers who assist in all areas of the Aquarium’s programs.
You can become an education volunteer assisting our staff with interactive, educational field trip programs; or work as an aquarist intern, helping to maintain the exhibits and care for the animals; or meet, greet and inform the public during public visiting hours, help out with birthday parties and special events.
Internships are available in our education, aquaristing and public programs’ departments. Internships are unpaid positions, but they are a great way to learn about Heal the Bay, the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and to get your feet wet in the environmental nonprofit world.
To find out what the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is all about and how to get involved, you may want to attend an introductory volunteer orientation, which is the perfect time to meet Aquarium staff and learn more about our volunteer opportunities. Orientations are typically held a few weeks before our quarterly, five-session training course all volunteers must complete.
Volunteering at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is a rewarding experience filled with the personal satisfaction of educating the public about marine animals and habitats.
