Summer Science Adventures Camp
Is your budding scientist wowed by whales? Enamored with eels? Starstruck by seahorses? If so, enroll him or her in a fun, educational marine science learning experience in our Science Adventures day camp at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. Each day is themed around a different marine science topic and is filled with games, crafts and laboratory experiences in a setting that fosters interaction with more than 100 species of marine life.
Weekly camp topics
Below are descriptions of each week. The grade range is in
parentheses and for a full description of daily topics, click here.
Week 1 (K-1): June 22-26
Explore the different ocean habitats and the incredible
animals that live there! We’ll delve deep into the Open Ocean and then check
out Kelp Forest critters, Sandy Bottom beasts and Rocky Shore creatures.
Week 2 (K-1):July 6-10
Learn how to be a scientist while studying the animals that
live just off of our beach! This week you can check out plankton under the
microscope, pet a shark, communicate like a whale, dissect a squid and identify
your favorite fishy friends.
Week 3 (1-3): July 13-17
Discover what it’s like to live in the ocean far away from
our sunny California shores. We’ll dive to the dark, deep ocean and travel to
the cold, North and South poles. Then we’ll determine how we, as humans, have
an effect on the huge ocean that connects our world.
Week 4 (1-4): July 20-24
The awesome topics covered in Week 1 are back by popular
demand for Week 4.
Week 5 (2-5): July 27-31
Ahoy, matey! Pirates have invaded the Aquarium and we want
you to join our motley crew! Learn about pirate and animal survival skills and
then put your pirate courage to the test as we brave the rides of Pacific Park.
And don’t forget the scavenger hunt for trash and treasures! It will be an epic
Thanks to the generosity of the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, summer camp scholarships are available! To apply, please download the application and return it to the Aquarium as soon as possible.
