The Aquarium’s “Meet the Locals” website now features "voices" for the six animals featured in the unique marketing campaign.
If animals from the Santa Monica Bay could talk, what would they say, and how? Find out now! Audio introductions to some of the animals found at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium are just a click away. The talking animals are the “Locals” from the “Meet the Locals” advertising campaign created last year to build awareness for the Aquarium.
Six in all, their “voices” mirror the personalities of Los Angelinos — from Hollywood to Los Feliz to Venice to Santa Monica.
There’s the sarcastic fringehead, a little fish with a big attitude; the ever-popular octopus, professing a passion for the arts; and the crotchety spiny lobster, exuding a crusty crustacean attitude that befits his age. Then there's the gender-challenged California sheephead, Zen-like mussels, and last but not least, the celebrity sea star, all enticing and enchanting the public into learning about the marine life of the Santa Monica Bay.
To learn more about the locals and hear what they are saying, visit www.MeetTheLocals.org and click the "Listen to the Locals" link at the bottom of the page.
About “Meet the Locals”
“Meet the Locals” is an advertising campaign designed to raise public awareness of the amazing educational opportunities provided by the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium.
Created in partnership with the L.A. office of Ogilvy & Mather, the campaign features six Aquarium animals: the lobster, the sarcastic fringehead, the mussel, octopus, sea star and California sheephead. The original animal artwork along with their clever, pithy "quotes" appear on banners, T-shirts, Meet the Locals website and other advertising material throughout the Los Angeles area. |
