A celebration of S.T.E.A.M chock-full of curious contraptions!
Attention high school teachers and college professors: Start assembling your team of young innovators because the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest is back!
The second-annual LA regional Rube Goldberg contest will return to Santa Monica Pier on November 15th as part of a daylong S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) event hosted by Heal the Bay and Santa Monica Pier and presented by sponsor Time Warner Cable’s Connect a Million Minds.
The challenge is to build an elaborate machine that creatively and artistically turns an everyday task into a multi-step, fantastical, fanciful feat of engineering. Each team's contraption will be displayed on the pier for curious passers-by as well as the contest judges, who will choose a winner to compete in the final round.
This just in: the task for the 2014-2015 competition is Erase a Chalkboard (updated).
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to activate critical thinking and team building skills in your students while meeting California state curriculum standards. Plus, you never know: A patent could be pending!
