Come mountain bike, enjoy the outdoors, and make a difference with Heal the Bay’s Stream Team!
Heal the Bay is partnering with the Mountains Restoration Trust to restore areas of Malibu Creek State Park. Invasive plants have negative impacts on natural habitats, so removing them is vital for a healthy watershed. Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while helping remove non-native vegetation in an effort to restore native plants along Malibu Creek and its many tributaries.
There are some sites in Malibu Creek State Park that need work a mile or two from the parking lot. No problem for mountain bikers, but a bit too far for volunteers to hike. We're asking up to 20 mountain bikers to join us for weed-clearing events on May 19th and June 23rd.
Please bring your mountain bike, basic mountain biking skills, helmet, sturdy shoes (we don't recommend cleated cycling shoes for weeding), plenty of water and a snack, sunscreen/hat, and be prepared to get dirty. Gloves and tools will be provided. The work site is about a 15 minute ride from the parking lot, and organizers and volunteers will leave for the work site promptly at 9:00 a.m.
NOTE: Ask for a parking pass for the Heal the Bay/Mountains Restoration Trust restoration event at the front gate. We'll meet at the upper parking lot near the picnic tables and restrooms at 8:45.
The event is open to anyone 16 and over, as long as they are comfortable biking off-road. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have their waiver form signed by a parent or guardian to participate.
