Since 1985, Heal the Bay has been working with community partners and local businesses to make solid, measurable changes in the health of our oceans and beaches.
It would be impossible to list every win, but a few we should all be proud of include:
Establishment of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for bacteria to provide enforceable pollution limits and prevent excessive levels of beach water bacteria during dry weather
Authoring and implementing California's Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI), the USA's first-ever statewide program that provides environmental education principles and curricula across disciplines for K-12 grade students in public schools
Activation of over 170,000 volunteers and the removal of nearly 1.5 million tons of trash and recyclables as the Los Angeles County coordinator for Coastal Cleanup Day
Passage of the Beach Water Quality Act (AB 411), creating statewide human health standards for beach water quality, a public notification and closure system, and mandated beach water quality monitoring
But our effective stewardship goes beyond our environmental work. Nearly 84 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to our programs, with barely 6 cents going to fundraising.
When you partner with Heal the Bay, you’re making a sound investment in keeping our rivers, beaches and ocean safe, healthy and clean. Plus your business benefits from our extensive social networking audience and mentions on our website.
