Venice Beach
Overview
Venice still remains the ultimate funky urban beach city it has always been. From the world-famous boardwalk, with its vendors and performers, to the tourist draw of Muscle Beach, Venice truly is a place like no other. Although it’s part of Los Angeles, its close proximity to Santa Monica means that it shares many characteristics of its wealthy neighbor to the north.
Water Quality
All in all, Venice has outstanding water quality. From the Venice Pier, with its fishermen, up and down the boardwalk, water quality is generally very good. Occasionally, one of the stormdrains crossing Venice Beach will cause water quality problems. In 2010, we noticed that particularly at the Windward Avenue stormdrain.
Heal the Bay Gets Local
Like Santa Monica, Venice is truly part of Heal the Bay’s home turf. We speak at neighborhood council meetings, and help encourage the community to end our dependence on plastic bags and takeout containers. Each year we speak at numerous schools and clubs, and we also hold regular beach cleanups on local Venice beaches.
