Celebrate the Annual Migration of the Gray Whale
Whale of a Weekend highlights the annual migration of the Pacific gray whale, which completes one of the longest migrations of any species, traveling 10,000 to 14,000 miles round trip between the arctic seas and the warm lagoons of Baja California, Mexico. This migration takes the whales past the Santa Monica Pier - sometimes within viewing distance from the west end observation deck.
Ever wonder what it is like to tickle a tiger shark on the nose, dance with a bull shark, or swim with a great white shark outside of a cage? Join Julie Andersen, founder of Shark Angels, on Sunday, August 4, to hear her amazing stories, see incredible images and footage and learn things you’ll never believe about an animal many of us fear.
Join us for Blue Green, an Earth Month event! After giving the beach a clean sweep at Heal the Bay's Nothin' But Sand Cleanup on the north side of the Pier, spend time on the Pier deck in the Central Plaza to peruse the Green Market, a village style expo of local green concerns.
