The County of San Luis Obispo Environmental Health Department monitored 18 locations on a weekly basis year-round, from as far upcoast as Cayucos State Beach in Cayucos to a downcoast location at Pismo State Beach in Oceano. Most samples are collected 25 yards north or south of the mouth of a storm drain or creek. For additional
water quality information visit the San
Luis Obispo
County Environmental Health Department website.
Dry weather water quality in San Luis Obispo County was excellent. Of the 18 locations monitored, 100% received A or B grades (Figures 19 and 20). In particular, Pismo Beach Pier showed marked improvement, up from a D on last year's report to a B this year.
Like every other coastal county that monitored during wet weather this year, San Luis Obispo's water quality during this time period was terrible. 17 of the 18 (94%) locations monitored received a D or F grade. Only Hazard Canyon in Montana de Oro State Park received the county's best wet weather grade, which was a C.
