Analysis   |   Grades

Due to cuts in the EPA BEACH budget (Environmental Protection Agency's National Beach Guidance and Performance Criteria for Recreational Waters), Mendocino County was only able to monitor 3 of the 6 locations monitored last year. The three beaches were Mackerricher Beach State Park at Virgin Creek, Big River near Pacific Coast Highway, and Van Damme State Park at the Little River. The Environmental Health Department monitors sampling locations on a weekly basis from April through October. From November through March there is no monitoring conducted.

Overall, summer dry weather water quality from April through October was excellent (Figures 5 and 6). All 3 water quality monitoring locations covered by the Beach Report Card received A grades.

Sewage Spill Summary
There were zero (0) reported sewage spills in Mendocino County that led to beach closures.
